House Barge Aerial

House Boat

Length on this one is 38' by 12' wide and 16' high.  Weight, if kept at 14,000 lbs, 6" draft is possible or doubled will only draw 1'.  Ballast tanksare  can be mounted on each side forward which will help with trim as needed.  The Barge part is 3' tall, determind by the clients dock height for boarding.

Estimated time and materials at about $45,600 for the barge (456 sq.ft.).  The first floor will be quite a bit less with no interior.  Since we specialize in custom builds, all will be as different as the clients, what they want to do themselves or have us do.  They can also come and help work on the barge themselves here on site.  I think all these barges will cost out at about $100 per square foot for materials and labor.

This one will be truck transported to Yachtfish Marine on Lake Washington (transportation cost of $2,500 per trip) and 2 story probably double or maybe a discounted second load..  We have a few clients in Canada and they are talking about adding an outboard and just drive them home, we would just slope the front a bit.

These will be constructed the same way and materials we use on our ocean going Catamarans we have been custom building for 40 years, which 20 have been here in Raymond.

Like all our Cat clients, the owners have chosen to pay as we build with progress reports and pictures daily and invoicing done weekly.  There are no large "up front" deposits  Customers get exactly what they want inside and out and have 100% control on what and when is purchased.

You can see the build progress on line daily and visit our construction site with appointment.

As with our custom catamarans, we build composite, foam core construction with Airex foam core on the bottom, Divinycell H-80 above water line and H-100 Vinylester resin.

Construction pictures on our web site of the Cats we build will also show the process, hand lamination, no chopper guns.  We don't use woven roving, polyester resin or solid glass as yachts that have problems with and weigh 30% more, sweat, are noisy and can sink.

It is up to the client what the overall cost will be based on what they want us to build for them and what stage and phases of constructions. This hull barge is a time consuming part of the construction, lots of materials and labor in this structural floating box.

Start of Construction

Airex foam core is used in the very bottom for impact protection as this high density foam does not crumble.
Layout of Foam for Bottom

This is the bottom is hand layed laminated with Vinylester resin and layers of fiberglass fabric.   It will be coated with epoxy primer and bottom painted with Interlux Pacifia recomended by manufacture as the best for fresh water.  Then the hull will be turned over and interior started.

Glassing fabric to foam panels

This side of the hull is 3' tall and also foam core with an extra layer of foam running full  length in the bottom corner.  Extra laminates also added for extra strength for the lifting straps that will be used to launch and also protection for blocking if needed.
Putting sides up on bottom pattern

Middle extra floor panel  with a full length vertical 6" tall and will support 1' wide upright suport that will support  another 6" full length floor jooice down the center.  These are spaced 4' apart fore and aft and this lower compartment will all be painted out white and space to crawl from side to side.

Ballast tanks 55 gallon (2) will be placed in each corner here in the foward part of the barge.  They will be fill from deck fills that will also allow a place to pump them back out if needed.
